Dendranthema Morifolium

Dendranthema Morifolium

Dendranthema morifolium is also known as Pink Border Daisy; this is a hardy annual that grows to a height of 12 inches. It is native to Japan, Korea and Siberia, but it has become naturalized in North America. Leaves and stems are covered with soft hairs. The biennial plant will form a basal rosette of leaves the first year after germination and will then begin flowering the following year. The double flowers have dark pink outer petals with lighter pink inner petals that fade to white at their edges. After blooming from June through August, it will die back briefly before resprouting from its taproot during early fall. High-quality forage for small animals, particularly horses and goats.

This plant can be noted for its popularity as an indoor houseplant in part because of its air cleaning qualities as per a study done by NASA, removing trichloroethylene, benzene, formaldehyde, ammonia, and other chemicals from the air.  In general, the plant is best fertilized once a month and watered two to three times a week depending on climate.
